Westside Wineries: Rosenthal

Perhaps one of the best known of the local wineries in and around the westside is Rosenthal - The Malibu Estate.  Located on a secluded 250 acre Malibu retreat in Malibu-Newton canyon, the winery is prominently represented by their tasting room, situated next to Beau Rivage restaurant at 26023 Pacific Coast Highway.  The vineyard estate is not open to the general public but it is available for special events and private, invitation only tours.
Rosenthal Estate
The winery was founded in 1987 by Los Angeles businessman George Rosenthal.  After several years of hard work, planting vineyards, testing varietals and building a reputation for the wine growing potential of the area, it was designated the Malibu Newton Canyon appellation.  Today, Rosenthal has 32 acres planted in this region characterized by cool evening breezes and warm, sunny days.  Christian Roguenant is the winemaker who focuses on a range of red wines and a Chardonnay made in a lightly oaked, Burgundian style.

The winery offers a wide range of varietals and blends.  Whites include their Surfrider Sauvignon Blanc, Surfrider Chardonnay and the Rosenthal Estate Chardonnay.  Reds include the Surfrider Pinot Noir, Surfrider Red, Rosenthal Merlot, Rosenthal Cabernet, Rosenthal Meritage, Cabernet Sauvignon 'Block M" and their Surfrider Red Dessert Wine.  Prices range from $19 to $70 per bottle with most wines priced under $40.
